Blowin' Up in '08
Los Campesinos!
Who: Everyone in this seven-piece Welsh band boasts the last name Campesinos (roughly, “the Farmers” in Spanish), but no, they’re not really related. Formed in early 2006, the group quickly earned heaps of praise for its party-starting EP, “Sticking Fingers into Sockets.” The highly anticipated full-length debut, “Hold on There, Youngster,” produced by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene) arrives April 1.
What: Punchy, irresistible indie pop-rock practically guaranteed to move even the most rigid of behinds. Vocalists Gareth and Aleks Campesinos achieve a delightful, boy-girl singsong dynamic (think a more playful version of the group’s Arts and Crafts labelmate Stars) and the band packs more than enough energy to earn its exclamation point.
Most likely to blow up: The track listing for “Hold on There, Youngster” isn’t available yet, but we’re hoping to hear a radio edit of “Sticking Fingers” standout “You! Me! Dancing!” Accentuated by bells and a highly contagious hook, the currently six-minute-plus tune will have you shaking your hips and singing along in no time. – Matt Pais
