My father and I tried to go to Katerina's last night and were told that though the dining room was empty that if we sat down to eat, we would have to pay cover for the music beginning an hour later. We politely thanked her (Katerina) and turned to leave. She chased after us and suggested that we look on the internet the next time. I told her I had looked on the internet and that was why we had come here. She then said, "well, this is not a sports bar." I have no idea what that was about, but I was not wearing jogging pants! The long and short of it: I never will go there again even though I loved this place before. Apparently taking care of customers is not high on Katerina's list.
Report This ReviewStopped by this week and was BLOW away by the Latin Jazz night on Wednesday. I really like Guitarra Azul: a Latin big band that ROCKS the house. This week Katerina had a secret weapon: GUITARS OF FIRE. If you like progressive latin (think Return to Forever) and the minimalist jazz aesthetic you will LOVE these guys. Two blazing acoustic guitars and sublime percussion. I got a CD and have been listening to their myspace. Amazing. I've gotta hand it to the club owner to showcase these guys. Kudos! the food and service at Katerina's are also first-rate. Best in town.
Report This ReviewThe food at Katerinas is delicious and well prepared. Katerina is a great, friendly host, inviting you in as if you were being invited into her home.
Extremely attentive staff.
The music is top quality musicians not just in Chicago but all over the U.S.
Agustina Gracyzk was fabulous when we saw her.
We also saw Rio Bamba and Guitars azul both were fun and unique
Report This ReviewI have been coming here for a few years. It has the best music..many different kinds. The food is very good and reasonable. You can live happily on the appetizers! This is a gem on the north side, not to be missed.
Report This ReviewMet a friend there yesterday to work on a project. Since my last visit, the restaurant has changed into somewhat of a nightclub. However, the fabulous food has not changed nor has the friendly service. Drank a delicious sour cherry martini and chatted up the very personable bartender. We had a great time. I'll be back to sample the other martinis.
Report This ReviewThe most elegant music room in Chicago. Katerina is there nightly, devoting herself to her patrons and to the music.
The food is always very good, the musicians adore playing for Katerina, the special and memorable evenings are frequent. A room with spirit.
Was there last Friday to see The Robert Kramer band and Val Leventhal. They put on a great show! Food was excellent and I will definitely go back!
Report This ReviewWhat can I say about this place! The atmosphere is great, the food is great, the drinks are great, and finally.... Katerina is great! I did have a unique food experience the other night at Katerina's that I wanted to share. I have dinned in many restaurants across the US and abroad and calamari is one of the appetizer dishes that both my wife and I enjoy a lot. I am not sure why I have not seen that dish on Katerina's menu before but this past weekend we ordered the "traditional calamari" dish as an appetizer. I can say with great confidence that this is the best calamari dish I have ever tried anywhere!!! Hands down, no if's, and's or but's about it. I was completely blown away by the taste and how soft the calamari was. Simply unbelievable!!! Great place and highly recommended!
Report This ReviewMy fiance and I went there on Saturday nite to see The Gypsy Rythm Project. The music was awesome but the bartender was very rude. We paid $10/person to get in, then we sat at the bar and ordered two drinks. When we were done with the drinks, she asked us if we want another round and we said "no, thx". Then she starts yelling at us "You know there is a minimum of two drinks per person!". Well we didn't know that, it was our first time there, plus we weren't told that at the door or when we sat at the bar. Plus we paid $10 buck to get in!!! We really enjoyed the music, but I don't think we'll ever go back!
