Smashing Pumpkins announce Chicago dates

The Smashing Pumpkins announced Tuesday that they will play their first hometown shows since 2000, with a four-night residency in November split between the Chicago Theatre and the Auditorium Theatre.

The Chicago shows --- Nov. 18-19 at the Chicago Theatre and Nov. 21-22 at the Auditorium -- are part of a 20th anniversary tour that will include several multi-night stops in major cities. Each two-night block of shows will feature a different set list.

The band broke up in 2000 after selling 25 million records, but singer-guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin reformed the band last year without original members James Iha and D’Arcy Wretzy. They released a studio album, “Zeitgeist,” in 2007 and have played numerous dates in North America with bassist Ginger Reyes, guitarist Jeff Schroeder and keyboardist Lisa Harriton. Chicago was conspicuously absent from the tour itinerary --- until now.

The band is scheduled to a release a two-DVD set, “If All Goes Wrong,” on Nov. 11 documenting its reformation.

Ticket information for the tour has not been announced.
