Rochelle: It's true that Perry pushed the melodrama a little too far in this one—not only was there the domestic violence but there’s also a revelation of child molestation, and it all comes seemingly out of nowhere—but you can see him starting to move away from that in his more recent films.

I don’t think he’s trying to impress people outside of the culture he’s showing on screen.. Madea smokes weed and has a glock in her purse. What grandmother really does that? Some people might completely miss her jokes because they don’t understand her references, and the movie is filled with social and cultural references.  If some people don’t get it, they don’t get it
