Daddy’s Little Girls
Rochelle: I think Perry took a big risk by talking about black stereotypes so much in this one. He really could've offended a fan base that only wants to see positive portrayals of black characters.
Union plays this sadiddy character that is so open about trashing black men. She considers herself too good to date her driver. I think the reason why viewers aren’t put off by any of it is because people go through that all the time in real life. Perry approaches everything from an honest perspective.
The drug dealer is there so we can see his effect on the community. Perry makes it clear that the community itself isn't bad; it’s the drug dealer that’s bad. By not glamorizing the criminal characters, he gives black actors and actresses the opportunity to express potentially cliché roles in a way that’s not demeaning.
