Big questions: Will "Osama" have the same impact as Spurlock's "Super Size Me," which may or may not have led McDonald's to get rid of super sizing? And, hey, can the filmmaker find Bin Laden?
Skip it: Spurlock, so interested in challenging and understanding the status quo in "Super Size Me," instead goes more for laughs while resisting follow-up questions to extremely controversial responses. It's awfully cute to deliver terrorists' bios on baseball cards, but it does less to enlighten the audience than show the director has done nothing to adjust his style for the material.
Catch it: To see Pakistani soldiers pursuing "magic nuts" because it will help them last all night in bed. Wow, that's a weird sentence.
Bottom line: The interviews do cover some thought-provoking territory, including subjects speculating that Bin Laden understands American impulses better than we do. But most of "Osama" finds Spurlock in gee-whiz mode, mouth agape at the different environment, the feel of a rocket launcher and the fact that, as it turns out, most of the people over there aren't terrorists but are in fact just like us.
Bonus: Spurlock does ask one important question before he leaves America: "How do I say, 'Don't take me, take the cameraman?'"
