One Humble Opinion from Main Street USA - August 25, 2008 at 12:33 AM
Having just exited this movie among a grumblling audience, I was stunned by the critical adulation this film receives. Granted comedy is always in the eye of the beholder, but there were barely a few snickers in my crowded showing .. and then only because this witless film lumbered on long enough to where it felt like a relief to let loose a minor chuckle. This film throws up so much star power ... incidentally, and strangely, there are no women characters in this movie ... into a script dresses up a ridiculous, strained premise with nothing but boring gross-out humor and a lot of expensive explosions. This movie made fools out of most of the actors; particularly Jack Black, Tom Cruise and especially Stiller. This movie should have shelf life a few weeks; and will look embarassing in short order. Now at the top of my list for one of the worst movies ever

I liked this movie better the first time I saw it -- when it was called The Three Amigos.

Not for anyone over the age of 30, the humor is just too puerile. good trailers at the beginning though, the rest of the movie was just average, and Jack Black is too over the top to be funny. I smirked a couple of times but its not one you want to see more than once ( the mark of a good movie to me!).

Don’t support a film like this that at least 17 times refers to them as “retards” and pokes fun at them.I know it’s a satire about actors, but it capitalizes on the backs of kids all over the country, members of our communities that are least able to defend themselves against cruelty and bigotry.Stiller’s intent falls hollow against the realities of our world from the viewpoint of these kids that are too frequently abused and humiliated. For those of us who know them, have them as members of our family or work with them, we know the truth, that they are special and offer a unique and refreshing view of the world. When we laugh at them behind their backs we become less than human ourselves, and that is not really funny at all.

How is this "an original idea for a comedy" when 1986's "Three Amigos" had basically the same plot: Dumb actors who think there acting in a movie but get caught up with real bad guys instead. Thunder may be funny.. but definitely not original.

Don't stay home... go. see. this. movie. I got to see an advanced screening and didn't stop laughing the entire time. I'm not a Ben Stiller fan by any means, but Robert Downey and Tom Cruise absolutely make this movie. Apperances by Matthew McCaughnehey (sp?) had me dying too. I went in expecteing an "ok" fun spoof, but got way more than I bargained for. I'll pay to see this movie again this weekend, and buy it the day it's out on Blu-Ray.

I want to see what all of the hubbub is about, even though I've never liked the hammy Ben Stiller.

Stay home. Ben's scraping from the bottom to get a laugh and banking on "retard" and old George Jefferson jokes to get a laugh but it got old. Quickly. You'll feel like, ":should I leave?" or "it's gotta get better soon" and it never does. And will someone please find Robert Downey, Jr. a real movie to show his acting skills!!!! This is a ridiculous excuse for a movie for someone with his potential. Most people are gonna be offended by the extreme Stiller goes for a laugh. It's "not funny" funny stuff. You'll feel like you've been drugged or drank too much and come out of the theater with a hangover. Not worth a dime.
