“National Lampoon Presents Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo” blatantly rips off the mockumentary magic of 1984’s “This is Spinal Tap,” which was released around the last time National Lampoon was relevant. Written and directed by Primus lead singer/bassist Les Claypool, “Electric Apricot” plods through the evolution of a jam band’s first album and performance at the musical festival Festeroo. Shot in the same style as “Spinal Tap,” “Electric Apricot” fails to wow in every way possible, but the music disappoints the most. With a respected musical artist at the helm of the production, at least the lyrics would be funny, right? Not in this case. The movie seems like one big inside joke, where only the actors understand their humor. Claypool’s character observes “you only make your first record once.” Here’s hoping this is his only movie.

Opens Friday in DeKalb and Decatur theatrical markets.
