True life is stranger and more interesting than fiction. This movie should have stuck to the true story. This movie is a missed opportunity to expose movie goers of the real struggles and human interactions that really went on during not only those few years, but over several decades. Maybe there will be a remake in 20 years and they will do a better job. But hey, this is only Hollywood.

It's a shame that Chateau Montelena's actual winemaker at the time, Mike Grgich, who made the winning chardonnay, is not acknowledged at all in this film. Yes, there's a scene in which a man wearing Grgich's trademark beret can be seen in the background, but that's about it. It will be lost on all but the most knowledgeable wine lovers. It's really unfortunate, because, for better or worse, motion pictures seem to serve as the official record of historical events, at least where the general public is concerned.
