“I, Robot” (2004)

In the robot-infested Chicago of 2035, Smith’s Del Spooner begins as a cop who regards his circuitry-laden brethren with narrow-minded prejudice. But after benevolent android Sonny (Alan Tudyk) assists our bigoted hero in the film’s climax, Del sincerely shakes his robotic hand, signaling a deeper understanding of the minority population Sonny represents.
Patriotic moment: Along with the handshake, Del has some advice for Sonny, whose future is uncertain now that he’s fulfilled the purpose he’s been programmed for: “You’ll have to find your way like the rest of us, Sonny. That’s what it means to be free.”
