Cinematic apologies

“The Incredible Hulk” hits theaters on June 13, promising big thrills and plenty of action. But will the onscreen mayhem be nearly as spectacular as the film’s very reason to exist?
The new “Hulk” has shrewdly been billed as a franchise reboot instead of a sequel to its 2003 predecessor. It’s not surprising, considering that film’s underwhelming box office and the disappointment many comic-book geeks felt with director Ang Lee’s anguished psychodrama approach.
This isn’t the first time someone in Hollywood has sheepishly taken responsibility for a perceived failure and quickly transitioned to a “make-up” project. Here are ten pre-“Hulk” films that scream “I’m sorry!” at the top of their lungs, along with an assessment of how successfully each film won back heartbroken fans.
