The apology: "Batman Begins"

Why apologize?: Predecessor “Batman & Robin” was not only the lowest grossing “Batman” by a wide margin, it was also a garish monstrosity that made director Joel Schumacher the laughingstock of fanboys everywhere. No wonder Warner Bros. waited a whole eight years to re-launch the franchise…
Did it work?: …and luckily, “Memento” filmmaker Christopher Nolan brought his gift for character and narrative complexity to this reboot. His sepia-toned visuals fit the series’ vengeance-obsessed moodiness infinitely better than Schumacher’s bursts of fuchsia. The result: critical acclaim and $205 million. All is forgiven, and we really can’t wait for “The Dark Knight”!
