Plot: Peter “The Lord of the Rings” Jackson directed this gory masterwork in which a New Zealander’s mother is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey, giving her an infection that temporarily kills her. She comes back to life as a disgusting zombie who spreads the infection, leading to ridiculously revolting scenes of cannibalistic zombie carnage.

Best death:  The grand finale zombie onslaught culminates with an innovative use of a lawnmower and plenty of gore.
