“Home for the Holidays” (1995)

Jodie Foster’s second directorial effort ponders that unique quandary: “if these people weren’t my family, would we even be friends?” Strained relationships abound, with enough screwed up characters for everyone to find someone to relate to. Plus, there’s the added bonus of co-star Robert Downey Jr., whose post-production confession that he was high during filming adds another layer of dysfunction to the experience.
