"Sign O’ the Times" (1987)

1984’s Prince-starring "Purple Rain" is slightly more exciting, but its fictionalized plot keeps it out of the running here. The Purple One's "Sign O’ The Times" got much less fanfare when it came out three years later but it’s much more a straight-up concert film. There’s no Apollonia 6 here, but we do get satisfying doses of Sheena Easton and Sheila E, plus plenty of pre-Jehovah debauchery from the artist formerly known as the Artist.
