The Detroit-based collective of studio musicians known as the Funk Brothers backed some of the greatest artists that ever came out of the ‘60s Motor City soul movement, but they never got their due. That is, until this loving tribute some 40 years later.
The history lesson combines interviews and vintage unseen footage with brand-new collaborations with younger artists like Chaka Khan, Joan Osborne and Ben Harper. It won some major critics awards and even snagged a couple of Grammys in 2003.
