Although she won an unexpected New York Film Critics Circle award for best actress for "There's Something About Mary," Diaz's first true taste of widespread critical acclaim came when she de-glamed for this excellent cult favorite written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze. Best supporting actress nominations from the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and SAG awards seemed to foreshadow an Oscar nomination that never materialized.
