"Hard-Boiled" (1992)

Michael Davis, the writer-director of "Shoot Em Up," was reportedly inspired by John Woo's use of an imperiled baby in this film's hospital-set shootout, but that's not even the most distinctive element of the sequence. The centerpiece of this Chow Yun-Fat starring modern classic is impressive both for its stamina (it takes up about a third of the movie's running time) and its visually gorgeous shower of smoke, broken glass and shot-up linoleum.
