“JFK” (1991)
Credit:Warner Bros.
A chronicle of the varied conspiracy theories surrounding President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, "JFK" is a frantic and fearful depiction of a nation at war with itself. At its center is Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner), the only man to have ever brought charges related to the murder of JFK.
Stone taps into our collective doubt and skepticism as Garrison presses forward, asking the questions that no one else will ask. Was Kennedy murdered because of the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion? Was Lyndon Johnson involved? Did the CIA view him as a dangerous overseer?
Critics were left to wonder: would Stone ever make another movie this good?
