2007: The year in movies
Best character: McLovin’ in “Superbad”
He’s got one name, he’s 25, he’s from Hawaii, and he’s an organ donor. As Fogell (perfectly cast newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse) becomes the person on his fake ID, a teen movie finds a fresh and hilarious way to tackle the excitement and total awkwardness of high schoolers on the verge of graduating—through a character who learns how to live up to his own previously unfounded confidence.
Most irritating character: Rasputia in “Norbit”
Rasputia (Eddie Murphy) is a very large, always angry and completely repulsive African American caricature. So it makes sense that she’s the focus of a movie that couldn’t be more offensive if it tried.
Runner-up: Diane Keaton in “Because I Said So”
