“Female Trouble” (1974)

Celebrated as the “Pope of Trash,” filmmaker John Waters is always a good place to turn for subversive cinema. This early work starring his transvestite muse Divine, opens with one of the worst movie Christmases ever. When heroine Dawn Davenport (Divine) fails to receive the gift of her dreams (a pair of “cha-cha heels”), she goes on a rampage that results in her mother trapped under the Christmas tree.
