8. "The Lords of Dogtown" (2005)

2005 was a big year for Ledger. He appeared in four films (three of which are on this list) and the first demonstrated his fast-blossoming proficiency as a character actor. This shapeless cousin of skateboarding documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys" depends on the natural charm of its cast to keep the audience interested, which fails more often that it succeeds. But whenever Ledger's on screen, the movie flies.
