10. "Ned Kelly" (2004)

Ledger made a handful of epic period dramas in his short career and they were all pretty sub-standard fare (sorry "Patriot" fans, don't expect to see that one on this list). Yet it wouldn't be surprising if this story of an Australian outlaw hero was closest to his heart. He reunited with director Gregor Jordan (who gave him his first lead role in the underwhelming Australian crime caper "Two Hands"), starred opposite future flame Naomi Watts and did a solid job playing one of his homeland's historical icons.
