27 picks to save the year
Let’s be honest: It hasn’t been a great year for movies so far. (And not just because any year that brings “The Love Guru” automatically seems like a loser.) Fortunately for everyone the fall movie season is here to save the day! At least, we hope so.
At first glance, the season doesn’t have a lot of sure things (besides, maybe, James Bond), but there are plenty of films that at least capture our curiosity (an Oliver Stone movie about a sitting President??; Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” opening on Halloween?!; Tom Cruise as a German officer in “Valkyrie”!?; Brad Pitt aging backwards!!??).
Here are 27 late-year flicks that just might be great, or at least worthy of discussion (along with our 1-10 curiosity-level rating, 10 being the highest). —Matt Pais, Metromix
