"I Spy" (2002)

TV adaptations aren't as easy as they look. (The new “Get Smart,” anyone?) But this incompetent big screen version of the ‘60s spy series tanked for plenty of reasons besides the usual small-to-big-screen struggles, chief among them the failed pairing of Murphy and co-star Owen Wilson. Throw Famke Janssen and Malcolm McDowell in the mix and you’ve got a movie that doesn’t even work on paper, and concrete proof that Murphy’s comic skills don’t have much edge in PG-13 material this flimsy.
