"Swingers" (1996)
The movie: A cult favorite about two L.A.-based friends, lovesick Mikey (Jon Favreau) and motor-mouthed Trent (Vince Vaughn), and their attempts to woo beautiful babies.
Game of choice: High-stakes blackjack, played at the "old school" Stardust, far removed from the "'Pirate of the Caribbean' horseshit" that has overtaken the Vegas strip
Winning or losing hand?: As the movie that launched Vaughn to stardom and inspired college-aged hipsters everywhere to toss around "money" as an adjective, "Swingers" scores mightily (though its huge success came in the DVD afterlife, as it grossed less than $5 million during its theatrical run). It's rarely more entertaining than the scene where Mikey and Trent hit the high-end tables in an attempt to look debonair, only to fall victim to conventional blackjack wisdom and lose an embarrassing amount after doubling down on 11.
