Open since 1989, this flagship restaurant in Bucktown is a neighborhood institution. Its central location, come-as-you-are, all-welcome-here atmosphere keeps the Northside a perennial favorite. Slightly upscale bar food includes a barbecued chicken sandwich, burgers, salads and the like. There are four eating areas to choose from. The year-round brick and stone patio that resembles a big hothouse is the Northside's greatest asset. Enclosed by a large glass structure (ceiling too!) it is bright yet toasty in the winter and the perfect respite from the hot summer sun. But if you want to see and be seen, sip a margarita at one of the hard-to-get tables that sit practically on the sidewalk. There is also another unenclosed section just behind it if you want some distance from the crowds. The inside dining area has two pool tables and a fireplace. Smoking is allowed in part of the restaurant and at the bar, which has glass doors that open onto the street.
