The Windy is the first four-masted schooner built since 1921, and the first to sail on the Great Lakes since the 1940s, when sail finally went out of style. "We're unique, and Chicago's unique for having this," says the ship's captain, Bob Marthai. "This is probably one of the most exciting, yet relaxing events on the water." On the Windy, passengers are more than cargo -- they're part of the crew, invited to help raise the sails and sometimes hold the wheel. "Every sail is patron-participating, and you get a feel for the last days of sail," Marthai says. The Windy also schedules educational sails for children and is available for parties and corporate affairs. Sails from late May to mid-October.
