This landmark hotel dates back to 1870. Rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the Palmer House was the first hotel in the country to employ Alexander Graham Bell's phone, install the prototype of an elevator and use electric light bulbs. Located in the Loop, the hotel is well situated for business and leisure travelers, within walking distance of shops, theaters, museums and many of the city's cultural institutions. The Palmer House has a business center, conference rooms, five ballrooms, restaurants and a fitness center, as well as in-room voice mail, data ports and fax machines.
