When it was built in 1927, the Chicago Hilton and Towers was the world's largest hotel. A $185-million renovation in 1985 restored the edifice, complete with marble and sparkling chandeliers, to its original luster. With an athletic club (indoor pool, jogging track, fitness equipment), three ballrooms, three restaurants and a two-story atrium lounge that faces Michigan Avenue and Grant Park, the block-long hotel is almost a city unto itself.
