My wife, a friend of ours, and I went to the pre-opening day at DMK Burger Bar. We were very impressed with the food, and everything else about the place. Even though they had not fully opened, our server, Jo, knew the menu thoroughly, and the food was top-notch. The decor was casual, but high quality, and the music choice and sound system quite good. The salad, burgers and mac & cheese we had were all very enjoyable, and made very well. I recommend DMK Burger Bar for somebody looking for a more laid back, but also more sophisticated, alternative to the nearby sports bars.

Simply wonderful. "Reservoir" is easily in the best 3 albums I've purchased this year. Big sound, multi-instrumentalists - chamber pop is probably a good description. Sonically as good as anything out - strings, horns, xylophone in addition to guitar/bass/drums. Plus, multi-part harmonies! Arcade Fire meets David Byrne with some Dexy's Midnight Runners thrown in. Great show November 9 at Schubas. I highly recommend Fanfarlo!

Hilarious! Loved this show. Most of the sketches are based on moments in rock history. There is a great fight scene between Mick Jagger and someone I won't spoil. But my favorite is the Tennessee Williams scene where the dialogue is the exact lyrics of Hendrix's "Hey Joe".

I was so happy with the service five minutes into our experience. As soon as we walked in a welcoming hostess led us to our table. Within a minute two other service personnel were tableside to ask if we wanted to hang-up our coats, bottled or tap water, would we like menus prior to our other guest arriving? I never expected such polished service. The restaurant is so warm and welcoming. I was a Think fan and I thing the owners out did themselves on their new restaurant. I was within a larger group and we ordered at least 10 different items from the menu. We all agreed everything was superb. If patrons are expecting Think, think again. This restaurant is outstanding in all areas including being very spacious. Chef Omar Rodriguez has left acouple of his signature items, so you won't feel a complete loss.

My friends live not far from that restaurant. We decided to check it one day because we really like sushi. :)) That is big place. Nice music, polite staff ... everything there makes you feel comfortable and the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Chef is very creative. The dishes were decorated beautifully. We are definitely going to visit that great restaurant again!!

I went to opening day at the Oak Park location. I bought two items. Pumpkin Scone - there was not a hint of flavor to suggest that this was a pumpkin scone, if I had taken a bite with my eyes closed I would not have been able to tell you what it was. Also, Chocolate cheesecake bar. Excuse me, again no flavor. I didn't taste a hint of chocolate, just BLAND & BLAH GOO, I literally could not eat it. I've never not been able to eat chocolate, no matter how bad it was. THIS WAS A FIRST FOR ME. And the last time I'll be going to Bleeding Heart Bakery. My forecast . . They will bleed to death in Oak Park. Too many good bakeries around the same area. Mark my word ! ! ! !
sarahwelly commented on Mojo Mickybo
Here is a snippet of the excellent Tribune review by Kerry Reid, which you can access elsewhere on this site: "Mojo Mickybo" ★★★ Seanachai returns to Belfast and Owen McCafferty with "Mojo Mickybo," a 1998 one-act about two boys, age 10, who form a friendship in 1970, just as "the Troubles" are heating up and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is the rage in the local movie house. Mojo (Robert Kauzlaric) and Mickybo (Dan Waller) meet on "an empty type of a day – the type a day you'd kick stones an chalk yer name on a wall rather than listen to yer ma and da spittin' bullets at each other," as Mojo puts it. The grown-up Mojo is also the narrator, but Kauzlaric and Waller play 14 other roles between them and their exuberant performances, which shift from boyish glee to raw confusion and fear in the flick of an eyelash, are the main reasons to see this tale of kids who fall in and out of friendship against a backdrop of sectarian violence.

having recently lived in rome and new to chicago, i was on the lookout for good italian food in the lakeview neighborhood. walking down broadway, the first thing that caught my eye was the gorgeous flowers on the back walls- i decided to give it a try once perusing the menu outside. i'm always a fan of italian restaurants that use the language, presenting their dishes as contorni, insalate e zuppa, etc. rather than dumbing it down for the average eater. inside, the simple and crisp design was pleasant and unabrasive- unlike many "mediterranean" restaurants whose decor distracts from the from the food or, even worse, tries to make up for it. the service was good- attentive but not overly so. they let those like myself enjoy their food once it arrives without having to be badgered with infinite "points of service." water was prompt and refilled when necessary, and bread and butters followed shortly afterwards. the menu described many beautiful and scrumptious-sounding dishes, and those around me had large portions of meat and pasta that they seemed happy with. i decided on the gnocchi con zucca (pictured,) as my craving for fall flavors has been strong since the leaves turned. my mother made gnocchi about a once a week growing up and as a result i am many times disappointed with other versions, but i was happily satisfied. like a true italian dish, it was simple and rich, the soft gnocchi and sweet butternut squash married perfectly and allowing each other to shine. added pepper and parmesan cheese (as suggested by the waiter) culminated in perfection for my taste buds. i finished up with a classic tartuffo- hazelnut and zabaglione gelato dusted in cocoa and adorned with a shot of espresso. big enough for two to share, indeed, but why not splurge when new to the area... i savored the half-melted swirls of decadence until the bowl was clean. a lovely night of exploration... next time i'll come with a bottle of wine (it's one of many in the neighborhood that are byob) and friends to make a celebratory night out of it.

This place is great! The Vietnamese owner was so friendly and enthusiastic. The setting is very cute, especially for a BYO. The Pho is outstanding, the papaya salad gets two thumbs up and the Coconut Mango beef (served in an actual young coconut) was a big stand out!! The only thing that we didn't love was a bland shrimp dish. Prices are very good too!

I went to Stretch Run for the Breeders Cup this weekend with some friends. I had a great time and My girlfriend won $50 bucks! There were TV's everywhere and the service and food were really good even though it was packed. It also seems like a great place to watch football with all the TV's. I will definitly be back!

I ordered the Calamari and after the first bite, I could not eat anymore. I had three other people try the dish, all three of them agreed that it had a rubber texture, and that it lacked flavor. After pushing the dish to the front of the bar the bartender asked if we would like anything else. So I ordered the Tiramisu which was just as disappointing as the Calamari. Even though the bartenders were very nice and introduced themselves, they were not very good at their job. The place was not busy at all, but after waiting several minutes to order drinks, I had to call the bartenders name to get his attention. When the bill came I noticed that I was charged for the Calamari and the Tiramisu. I have never been to a restaurant that charged you for an appetizer or even a meal that was not eaten. Finally, the biggest shock was the Valet. As I pulled up I saw a sign for Valet, but there was not price indicated on the sign. When I left I saw that it read Complimentary in very faint lettering. When I handed the Valet attendant a $5 bill he informed me that it was $10. That is when I lost it. I could not believe that a restaurant in that location was charging $10 for valet. My first impression was that this was a great place that I would frequent, but after the horrible food, horrible service, and $10 valet I was forced to write this review and never go back again.

I went there for the first time for a birthday party dinner i was hosting for my sister. I simply selected a BYOB Italian restaurant and from what we read from the reviews, we decided to try it out! Well can I say that this is my new favorite Italian spot in Chicago! The food was outstanding! We had a 7 course meal served family style and it was great because we got to try an array of dishes. The calamari was tender and fried to perfection! The veal and gnocchi bolognese were just delicious! And the chicken vesuvio one of the best! I highly reccommend this restuarant for anyone looking for an outstanding Italian meal, The friendly service was just a bonus!

We have been here 5 times now and every dish has been, by far, the most delicious I have ever tasted. After living in Chicago for 11 years... and all the restaurants that come and go... this one is a keeper and it is nice to be able to answer that question, "What is your favorite restaurant?" Table Fifty Two! Favorites? Any soups and the cornbread; pistachio-crusted chicken breast, pork chop and short ribs; three-cheese mac and for dessert, the hummingbird cake!

Having read the previous reviews, I almost canceled my reservation. Good thing I didn't. From my dining experience last night, I submit that all those negative reviews do an injustice to Table 52. I am a very experienced diner so I know of what I speak. I had a party of 3. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately, although ours seemed to be the only open table. Obviously they pay attention to the reservation list. Our server throughout was excellent. Our party had the fried chicken and the short ribs. Both entrees were very tasty and well prepared. Our deserts - hummingbird cake and pumpkin cheesecake were both top notch and delicious. Our bill, while a bit pricey, was not all that out of line with other top notch restaurants in the city. Overall a very good experience. Makes many of those previous critiques seem out of line.

My family ordered from Ho Ho every Saturday night for years when I was a kid. Then we moved away and I swear, I have never had such a good egg roll since. Or fried rice or chicken chow mien either. In fact, I drove OUT to Schaumburg from downtown Chicago just to get Ho Ho recently bc my desire for an amazing egg roll has not been fulfilled since those old days. And believe me, I was not disappointed. Everything was delicious and still as amazing as I remember. Metro Mix says that this is "average" American Chinese but I gotta say- its better than that.

I loved this place the first two times I came in but something is slipping. I cant quite put my finger on it. The food is not amazing anymore - It is merely good. I've had to wait awhile for my table the last few times as well. The service has been accomodating and dependable however and I really want this place to wow me again. I will go back for another chance though.

After about 20 minutes after we received our food, they came and said we need to be finished eating b/c they are taking our table. Paid for the meal, but couldn't finish it b/c they literally said we are taking your table away and didn't know what to tell us about not being able to finish our dinner.
