Pedestrians walk by the new Spertus institute of Jewish Studies, which rises on a former vacant lot at 610 S. Michigan Ave. The building s transparency invites passersby inside, in contrast to the impenetrable walls of stone seen elsewhere along Michigan Avenue. The building can be expected to extend Michigan Avenue s cultural vitality southward, providing a new anchor of activity between Millennium Park and the Museum Campus.
