Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie concludes their sesquicentennial celebration of the American Civil War with this program. Over the past four years, Midewin portrayers have highlighted the involvement of local Civil War soldiers through first person presentations. Midewin's Civil War sesquicentennial events conclude on June 27 on a celebratory note. The War to Save the Union has come to a close and the local citizen soldiers are coming home. Join with portrayers of friends and family as they gather at a farmstead for a celebratory afternoon on the return of their sons and husbands, and lament the loss of loved ones, and their assassinated president. The program begins at 11 a.m. at the Midewin Welcome Center for a short orientation. The participants will then proceed by car caravan to the farmstead for the program. On route, a narrator will speak about the formation of the local Civil War units via walkie-talkies provided to tour participants.
