Like Chicago’s great founder, climb into a canoe, discover how to thrive in the wilderness, and learn Native American customs with The DuSable Experience. This day of sensory learning is centered on the adventures of Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable who, in the late 18th century, canoed up the Mississippi River, worked closely with the Native Americans, and became Chicago’s first non native settler. This free family day includes canoe rides, Native American crafts and games, wilderness survival classes, and tours of our mobile museum.
