This campaign was a brilliant application of the "indirect approach.” The campaign showed for the first time the effectiveness of the Israeli Defense Forces. But there was a dark side, with the massacre of an Israeli-Arab village near the Jordanian border. The resulting trial had the potential to transform Israeli identity, like the Kastner and Eichmann trials.
