During this presentation, Connie Martin illustrates some Pre-Civil War quilts and their significance to the freedom of slaves through the Underground Railroad. The stories surrounding the secret messages in quilts are rich in American culture. Replicas of actual quilts that slaves used on their journey are displayed and the meanings behind the different patterns is discussed.
