In his acclaimed memoir "A Backpack, a Bear, and 8 Crates of Vodka" (called "hilarious and heartbreaking" by The New York Times), Lev Golkin explores what it was like to be a child refugee when his family escaped Soviet Russia in 1986. Based on his experiences, today Lev writes commentary about the current refugee crisis for publications including Salon, the LA Times, and Boston Globe. He'll be introduced by Lifeway CEO Julie Smolinsky, who also came to the US as a refugee when her family fled the USSR. Lev will sign books following the program. Stay for a first night of Hanukkah reception, complete with potato latkes and candle-lighting.
