“The Cornfield,” “the Bloody Lane,” and “Burnside’s Bridge” mean only one thing: America’s bloodiest day – Sept. 17, 1862 – the battle near Sharpsburg, Maryland along Antietam Creek. The slaughter at Sharpsburg proved to have been one of the war’s major turning points. The speaker, Frank Crawford, discusses General Burnside’s part of the battle and the ongoing controversy. Crawford introduces the audience to the participants in the battle and helps the audience understand their actions and decisions made under unbelievable pressure.
