Fiesta! Music Artistic Director Elbio Barilari, in collaboration with Michal Holian, Music Director of the Ukrainian Institute for Modern Art, present Kaia String Quartet in a series of Sunday afternoon concerts of contemporary and classical music by Latino and Ukrainian composers at UIMA. Kaia is comprised of Victoria Moreira and Naomi Culp, violins, Sixto Franco Chordá, viola, and Hope Shepard, cello. With their current focus on exploring the music of contemporary and traditional Latin American composers, the Chicago-based string quartet has been the Ensemble in Residence of the Latin Music Festival of Chicago since 2012. In October Kaia released their debut CD, Latinoamérica on opening night of the 2014 festival. The inaugural program includes Claude Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, Op.10 and the second movement from Leo Ornstein’s String Quartet No. 2, SO 608. Elizandro Garcia Montoya will join Kaia on clarinet for Elbio Barilari’s Musings on the Nature of Time, a response to Mozart's Clarinet Quintet. A reception with the artists following the concert features coffees from Dark Matter and sweets from local bakeries
