Some of the most influential fathers of American musical theater were brilliant Jewish composers and lyricists such as George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Oscar Hammerstein II. This fall, Chicago a cappella explores their influences and forebears, from European synagogue music to Yiddish vaudeville on Second Avenue, and will perform some of the best-loved American Songbook standards that arose from these traditions. Chicago a cappella is one of the area’s most accomplished and innovative vocal ensembles, spanning a repertoire from Gregorian chant to the Beatles and beyond.
