Join the Chicago History Museum in remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the tragic Eastland disaster that claimed over 800 lives. On July 24, 1915 charter vessel The S.S. Eastland rolled into the Chicago River resulting in one of the greatest tragedies in Chicago’s history. The event, hosted by the Museum’s Chief Historian Russell Lewis, will feature a talk from Michael McCarthy, author of The SS Eastland and the Shipwreck That Shook America, and a visit from descendants of Eastland Disaster victims and survivors. A Q&A and a gallery tour featuring artifacts from the Eastland Disaster will follow the program.
