When an outbreak or natural disaster hits a community, women—both at home and in the hospital—are often the first to respond. Every country faces unique challenges, including poor training, lack of payment, and inadequate access to proper supplies including clean water and infection-free blood. These deficiencies have a greater impact on women—a situation made clear in Liberia where women accounted for 80% of deaths due to Ebola. How do we design a more responsive urban and rural infrastructure to protect these workers? Join The Chicago Council for a discussion of the unique challenges women face as they battle diseases around the world. Featuring Elikem Tomety Archer, Senior Director, International Partnerships and Programs, AmeriCares; Susan M. Blaustein, Executive Director, WomenStrong International ; Verónica Arroyave, Director, Corporate Responsibility, AbbVie Foundation (moderator). Advance registration required.
