The third annual Havana in Chicago raises money to assist the work of First Hand Aid in providing medical supplies and meals for people in Cuba, will be held at Sidetrack. Expect live Cuban music, authentic Cuban food, a silent auction and other surprises. Even with all the good news from Washington, the need in Cuba has never been greater. First Hand Aid is a registered 501(c)3 organization that has been working for more than a decade to improve the quality of life for Cuban children with cancer and other diseases, elderly Cubans who lack food, and other families in need. Since the inaugural Havana in Chicago held in 2013, this event has raised over $45,000 for First Hand Aid which has been translated to direct aid to people who need it most. The third annual Havana in Chicago is a very special event produced by Sidetrack and owners Pepe Pena, Arthur Johnston, and a host committee of twenty Chicagoans who have traveled to Cuba in the last two years to participate in the meals program, hospital visits and medicine deliveries of First Hand Aid. Please visit www.firsthandaid.org for more information about the history and work of First Hand Aid (based in Grand Rapids), and about the founder Marc Bohland—a man of remarkable dedication and achievement.
