Regarded by many as Gilbert and Sullivan’s nest and most perfect collaboration, Iolanthe drops England’s House of Peers — Lord Chancellor included — into the middle of a Hans Christian Anderson-inspired forest enchanted by fairies. When Strephon, son of the beloved eponymous fairy Iolanthe, is spurned in his affections for his shepherdess love Phyllis by the Lord Chancellor and his House of Peers, the fairies take their revenge — by sending Strephon into Parliament as a Fairy Member.
