Join Oak Park Aikikai for a free aikido class! Aikido is a martial art that relies on joint locks, pins, and throws to control an attacker decisively and without serious injury – a philosophical aim of the art. Aikidoists control and re-direct the aggression and momentum of the attacker by getting “off the line” of the attack, and employing a centered, often circular, response. So it’s not necessary to be physically strong to practice aikido! Participants learn some basic aikido movements, have some exposure to aikido weapons, and observe a demonstration. There will be plenty of time to ask questions. No registration is necessary, but attendees must be at least 13 to participate. Wear sweat pants and a tee shirt. Visit the website or email for information.
