The Fox Valley Aero Club is sponsoring its 4th Annual Windy City Warbirds & Classics RC Air Show by having its lens focused on the past. This year is the 90th Anniversary of the Spirit of St Louis transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. This is a great family outing to go see a custom Giant Scale RC model airplane of the Spirit of St Louis on June 22-24. This carefully built giant scale Radio Control Model Airplane and other giant scale Warbirds & Classics airplanes will be filling the skies with nonstop flight demonstrations starting at 9am. All planes will have at least 80” wingspans with biplanes having 60” wingspans. Some will have wingspans over 20 feet. There will be over 90 pilots from 7 states. John Fischer, the event chairman, states: “We at Fox Valley Aero Club really enjoy bringing this event to the community. The atmosphere, the sounds, and excitement are a unique family outing that helps us all appreciate the history of flight. You will love seeing these historic giant scale warbirds and classics fly.” The Spirit of St Louis was a wonderfully engineered airplane that made flight history with Charles A Lindbergh flying from New York to Paris in 33 hours and 30 min. When he landed safely at Le Bourget Field near Paris, he was greeted by a wildly enthusiastic crowd of 100,000. After Lucky Lindy’s historic flight he went on tour with his plane for about a year. One third of the US population saw Lindbergh during this tour. Now is your chance to go to the Fox Valley Aero Club and see this beautiful scale replica of the Spirit of St Louis. After the Air Show at noon, there will be a Kids Candy Drop and Open Flight Line. Bring your cameras and a lawn chair. The event is Thursday June 22nd through Saturday June 24th. It is at 3821 Karl Madsen Drive, one block west of route 38 and Peck Road. $5 entrance fee, kids 12 and under are free. Veterans and active military with ID are free.
