Chicago, like most Midwestern and Eastern Seaboard cities, uses lead pipes to deliver water to thousands of its residents. With 12 Chicago Public Schools recently testing positive for high levels of lead in its water supply – affecting hundreds of children – many Chicagoans have started to question just how safe is the drinking water. Could lead poisoning, which devastated the city of Flint, happen here?
