Begin the season with a journey into the expressive and melodic folk music of Eastern Europe. Brahms’ monumental first piano quartet, inspired by Hungarian folk tunes, is a sweeping romantic work of symphonic proportions scaled for four virtuoso players. Kodály and Farkas draw from the rich musical language of Hungary and Romania to reflect traditional melodies in new expressions, while Stravinsky weaves a sonic tapestry from Russian songs. Guest soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg.
