Between 1854 and 1929, nearly 250,000 children were transported from New York to the homes of farm families in almost every state. Clark Kidder tells the story of his paternal grandmother who at 13 rode an orphan train to the Midwest in 1906. He shares photographs and excerpts from his book, based on his grandmother’s life.
