★★½ "Another famous, hard-living artist who died before age 40 takes the stage with Red Theater Chicago. Dylan Thomas, whose recording of his classic 'A Child's Christmas in Wales' is probably playing in many homes this holiday season, certainly did not go gentle into that good night, and he was pretty hard on those around him, including his wife, Caitlin, and his American promoter/baby sitter, John M. Brinnin. The memoirs of the two formed the basis for Sidney Michaels' 1964 play, 'Dylan,' which won Alec Guinness a Tony Award as the wild-haired Welsh bard. Director Aaron Sawyer's staging includes a clever reversal of the seating plot between acts to take us from Thomas' loquacious public drunkard performances (for which we are his interactive audience) into his unraveling personal life. But this doesn't entirely overcome the flaws in Michaels' play." -Kerry Reid
